Senedd Committee report – increase children’s physical activity opportunities

According to a Senedd Cymru Children, Young People and Education (CYPE) Committee report, the next Welsh government should increase physical activity opportunities for children and young people, to maximise play’s health and well-being benefits.

The report, The impact of COVID-19 on children and young people: Final report, provides the Committee’s inquiry conclusions and the steps the Welsh Government needs to take now and in the future to support children and young people. The Committee’s inquiry explored the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on children and young people’s physical and mental health and well-being, their education and their social care.

Also, the report notes that children and young people’s well-being must be at the centre of the coronavirus pandemic recovery plan. It recommends that opportunities for outdoor activity should be opened up as soon as safely possible, and only subject to future restrictions if absolutely essential and evidence of the need to do so is clearly demonstrated.
