February half term childcare and playwork provision
In a letter to the childcare and playwork sector, the Welsh Government has explained that there are no operational restrictions in place for childcare and playwork settings in Wales. This means settings can remain open and continue to care for all children, if they wish, over February half term. Settings include day care, child minding, sessional, crèche, out of school and holiday provision and Flying Start provision.
The Welsh Government has emphasised that settings that are planning to be open should continue to operate in accordance with the Protective measures in childcare settings: Keep Childcare Safe guidance. Where possible, settings should make use of outdoor space as much as possible.
The letter also provides information about keeping contact groups within the setting small and consistent. If settings take children from more than one school, children should be in school based contact groups as a minimum, however being in year or class-based groups would be better.
The Welsh Government has also produced the Keep Wales safe at work guidance, which details the actions employers should take. All settings are required to undertake a COVID workplace risk assessment following recent changes to the law, and the assessment should be completed as soon as possible.
