Smoke-free school grounds, playgrounds and outdoor care settings
From 1 March 2021, a new law will come into force that requires certain settings in Wales to be smoke-free. This includes school grounds, public playgrounds and outdoor care settings for children.
The Welsh Government has produced guidance that sets out what those responsible for the new smoke-free places need to do. It explains that the manager or person responsible for the setting, playground or school ground must take reasonable steps to stop a person who is smoking there.
The guidance also includes information about displaying ‘No smoking’ signs in the settings. For outdoor care settings, there is no requirement for signs to be displayed, but for public playgrounds and school grounds, signs will be required. The Welsh Government has provided template ‘No smoking’ signs, which can be used by settings.
