Happy World Children’s Day

Today it’s World Children’s Day, which marks the anniversary of adopting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). As recognised in Article 31 of the UNCRC, every child has the right to play.

To celebrate 31 years of children’s right to play, we are launching our new Right to play workshop. It aims to raise awareness about the right to play as well as empower children and teenagers to advocate for better opportunities for playing and meeting up with their friends.

The workshop is designed for playworkers, participation workers, youth workers and school staff to facilitate in schools and other structured settings. It has been designed to be used by anyone with a working knowledge of how to support and facilitate children’s play using a playwork approach. This could be a playworker, play development worker or member of teaching staff.

The workshop can be delivered on its own, but it is also a useful way to start engagement with a school. The workshop includes a range of resources that can be used during and after the session – from a workshop session plan, to a poster for children to share what they have learned, to learner outcomes for use in schools.
