The First Claim - desirable processes

The First Claim – desirable processes provides a framework for advanced playwork quality assessment. It is the ‘sequel’ to The First Claim ... a framework for playwork quality assessment – it isn’t intended to be used as a stand alone publication.

As the title states this publication focuses on the advanced framework for playwork quality assessment whereas the first includes the basic and intermediate frameworks. The First Claim – desirable processes should be used in conjunction with The First Claim ... a framework for playwork quality assessment.

The First Claim – desirable processes is divided into five main sections which cover:

    • Quality in playwork practice – an introduction
    • The advanced framework – what is advanced quality playwork and assessment and why we need it
    • The process – play mechanisms and intervention modes: what are we assessing, grading and the need for accurate and authentic reflection
    • Play mechanisms – procedure, template, definitions and explanations
    • Intervention modes – procedure, template, definitions and explanations.

The advanced framework is designed to enable experienced playworkers to put knowledge and practice under greater scrutiny – to be more reflective and analytical of their knowledge and practice. It aims to assist experienced playworkers to make judgements regarding the impact and effectiveness of their practice.

The First Claim ... a framework for playwork quality assessment asked us ‘Am I doing okay?’ whilst The First Claim – desirable processes asks us ‘What am I doing okay?’
