Welsh parks generate £1.6billion worth of health and wellbeing benefits
New research by Fields in Trust shows that parks and green spaces in Wales generate over £1.6 billion of health and wellbeing benefits and a total economic value to an individual of just under £30 per year.
According to the report, the benefits are the result of regular use of parks and green spaces, giving people greater life satisfaction and improved physical and mental health. Parks and green spaces also save the NHS around £5.2 million per year in Wales – based on a reduction of GP visits.
The charity launched the new report, Revaluing Parks and Green Spaces along with a new five year strategy, Green Spaces for Good with the aim of getting 75 percent of the UK population within a ten minute walk of a protected park or green space by 2022.
