Play Wales is the national charity for children's play.
Play Wales is an independent charity funded by the Welsh Government - our area of charitable remit is Wales.
We work to raise awareness of children and young people's need and right to play and to promote good practice at every level of decision making and in every place where children might play.
We provide advice and guidance to support all those who have an interest in, or responsibility for providing for children's play so that one day Wales will be a place where we recognise and provide well for every child's play needs.
Children and Families (Wales) Measure 2010 – play sufficiency duty
The Welsh Government is placing a duty on local authorities to assess play opportunities in their areas. Play Wales worked with the Welsh Government to produce a toolkit to aid local authorities to complete the play sufficiency assessments.
Play Wales was closely involved in drafting the national Play Policy (2002) and in providing recommendations for Play in Wales (2006) the Welsh Government Play Policy Implementation Plan.
In 2006 we were contracted to work with BIG Lottery Fund in Wales to deliver the Child's Play programme as part of the Healthy Families Initiative. This contract ended in January 2010.
In July 2011 Play Wales hosted the triennial International Play Association world conference in Cardiff. The 18th conference of the IPA offered four days to share evidence, experience and examples of good practice with colleagues from around the world.
Play Wales is a registered charity, no. 1068926 and a company limited by guarantee, no. 3507258. Registered in Wales.
